Suburban Sombrero: Our Summer Lager With a Twist

Some beers are born from months of planning, test batches, and carefully mapped-out release calendars.
Suburban Sombrero was born because we needed something cold.

The problem was simple: summer was coming, and we needed a light beer that felt right for the season. The catch was that we already had a lager and a pilsner on tap, so brewer Brett had to find a way to make something that lived in that same easy-drinking world without feeling like we were just adding another version of the same thing to the board.
Then he saw the lime juice.
What followed was not overthought. Brett brewed a clean, snappy Mexican Lager using flaked corn for added residual sweetness, dashed in lime, and finished it with sea salt to make the flavors pop. The result was bright, refreshing, and built for the exact kind of day when the patio is full, the sun is working overtime, and your first sip needs to do a little more than simply be cold.
Suburban Sombrero is our summer seasonal Mexican Lager with lime and sea salt. At 5.1% ABV, it is light enough to drink like a summer beer, but the lime and salt give it just enough punch to stand out. The lime brings a fresh citrus edge, while the sea salt sharpens the whole thing and helps the flavor carry through the finish.

The name comes from one of the great dumb ideas in Seinfeld history. In the episode, Elaine is working for the J. Peterman catalog and comes up with the “Urban Sombrero,” a fashion concept that tries to combine Southwestern flair with big-city sophistication. It is treated like a brilliant catalog-worthy idea, even though the joke is that it is completely ridiculous.

Being the Seinfeld fans we are, and, well, being in the 'burbs, the name made itself.
Suburban Sombrero is not high fashion. It is not trying to be elegant. It is a beer for yards, grills, patios, golf carts, neighborhood pools, and sweating through your shirt before dinner. It takes that same slightly absurd spirit and points it straight at summer in the suburbs.
What started as a practical answer to a taproom need has turned into one of those beers that feels like it was always supposed to exist here. A Mexican Lager. A little lime. A little sea salt. A name that makes just enough sense after the second pint.
Suburban Sombrero is back again as our summer seasonal release!
